What’s new for Global Student Challenge 2018?
Since we got back from the GSC 2017 finals in July we’ve been busy preparing our plans for Global Student Challenge 2018 and things are about to get real. Have you got your teams ready?
We’ve made a few changes to the competition that we hope will make this year – our fifth year of the competition – the best yet.
Announcing a new stage: The Foundation Years.
Previously known as the free trial period, we know in previous years that the teams who do well in the competition are the ones who made the most of the trial period. In fact, we think it’s so important that, in reality, it’s the first stage of the competition.
Following on from the Foundation Years will be the Early Years stage, which has a first submission date of 20 March 2018.
The biggest change – which you might be able to tell from the website change – is that we’re moving the July finals from Hong Kong for the first time. Instead, we’ll be hosting the finals in Toronto!
In 2016, the Global Student Challenge finals were held in Hong Kong alongside another CIOB event – Members Forum. When Members Forum moved to Cardiff in 2017, we opted to stay in Hong Kong, but in 2018 both events will once again be run alongside each other – in Toronto. What that means for the finals is that as well as competing to win the Global Student Challenge title, finalists will also be able to take part in Members Forum activities and network with senior construction professionals from around the world. If you’d like to find out more about what happens at Members Forum, visit our sister site here.
Finally, we’ve amended the entry requirements slightly and the competition for 2018 will only be open to full-time students. However, we will still be allowing one postgraduate member per team as in previous years.
All sounds good to you? You can register for the competition here.
